Player of the Month for September is: Francesca C! Well Done!

Welcome

Hello Everybody

Did you enjoy the quiz night? Each team got good scores and we thought it was a nice end to the half term. Can you believe that one half term has gone already? It’s flown by! We’ve been impressed with how hard you’ve worked on the new programme of music, and we can’t wait to hear you perform at the Slow Melody Concert.

The Slow Melody Contest/Concert is the major aim for this half term. It takes place on Sunday 27th November and the contest is well worth entering. All you have to do is perform one piece and then you get feedback – and possibly even a prize if you come in the first three! All of us are able to advise you on what type of piece to play, and we will be there on the day to help you all.

Players in the Beginner Band are able to enter in the following sections:

Section 1: 8 years & under
Section 2: 9 & 10 years (Beginner Band)
Section 3: 11 years and over (Beginner Band)
Section 11: Duet section (Juniors and Beginners only)

If you want to enter then you can download an entry form by clicking here. Entries must be submitted by November 15th. If you want to know anything else about it, come and speak to any of us on a Tuesday.

Coming up this Half Term

Here are some dates for your diary for this half term

Sunday 27th November: Slow Melody Contest
Sandbach Boys School, 10.00am onwards
This is open to anyone who wishes to enter. We want as many of you to enter as possible, as it is great to perform a piece and get some feedback off a first class musician.

Sunday 27th November: Awards Concert
Sandbach Boys School, 5pm
This is a concert and we expect all the band to be there, even if you didn’t enter the contest earlier in the day. We will be awarding our annual awards during the concert, as well as presenting prizes to all prize winners during the slow melody competitions.

How To Look After Your Instrument

  • Keep your valves and slides well oiled. Then they won't get stuck!
  • Give your instrument a bath every now and again - it works much better when it's nice and clean inside!
  • Always take the mouthpiece out of the instrument when you've finished playing.
  • Use a soft duster to keep your instrument shiny and sparkly!

Practice Tips

  • It is much better to practice 'little and often.' 15 minutes a day is better than one hour a week.
  • Keep practicing something until you can't get it wrong. Don't stop the first time you get it right.
  • Remember music is a hobby! Make sure you enjoy playing and come to band with a smile on your face! We all do!
